Top Ten Highlights of 2024

Ten things that happened in the foundation’s 2024.

  1. Last year’s $10,000 Blind Travel Foundation Travel Grant winners travelled to Japan, Ghana, and state and national parks across the US. Learn about their projects here!
  2. We went viral! Grant winner Mina Lamarra created a video where she uses visual interpretation app Aira to get help operating a bidet in Japan. It has had over 740K views so far!
  3. Leading white cane manufacturer Ambutech donated canes for grant winner Grayson Roberts to take to Ghana! Check out his announcement video!
  4. Ted Tahquechi leveraged his Blind Travel Foundation trip to connect with AwareWolf Gear and review their All Terrain Cane. Read his review here.
  5. All of the 2024 grant winners had a chance to meet in Huntington Beach, California! See the video!
  6. Our 2023 grant winners landed new jobs. Marybai Huking now works for our partner Aira as their first Social Media Manager. Brian Fischler is now a Senior UX Researcher for Yahoo Sports.
  7. Consumer Technology Hall of Famer Mike May joined the Blind Travel Foundation Board!
  8. Blind Travel Foundation Executive Director Mike Walsh was proud to speak about Blind Travel Foundation at the Blind Travel Summit in San Francisco and on an eBay Fireside chat.
  9. Blind Travel Foundation landed a partnership with FEELDOM, an adaptive backpack company. They will provide $1,000 in store credit to each of the 2025 winners.
  10. Ten-year-old grantwinner Grayson went backstage and met Stevie Wonder! This amazing moment was facilitated by Mike May.
